The Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko, has rejected the Electoral Commission’s directive for a rerun of elections at a contested polling station in the Dome Kwabenya constituency.
Tanko has insisted that the NDC’s parliamentary candidate, Elikplim Akurugu, won the election based on the results from the majority of polling stations in the constituency.
Speaking to journalists on Saturday, December 28, 2024, Tanko questioned the EC’s decision to call for a rerun, highlighting what he described as clear discrepancies in the Electoral Commission’s calculations.
“There was a difference of 1,154 votes, and if we are now having a problem with just one polling station, that polling station should be disregarded. The voter population for that station is 689, so when you subtract 689 from 1,154, you can see where this is headed,” he said.
He expressed dissatisfaction with the EC’s handling of the matter, accusing them of miscalculating the results.
“These people have issues with arithmetic. We will do the calculations for them. They should hold their horses because Elikplim has won this election, and we will not accept their so-called rerun,” he added.
The Electoral Commission has recently announced a rerun of the election at the Abokobi Women’s Development Centre 2 polling station, following the reported absence of a pink sheet for that station.
