The Transition Team of President-elect John Dramani Mahama has threatened to reverse any ‘last-minute’ recruitments and payments made by the outgoing administration that have not been approved by the team.

In a press statement released on December 17, 2024, the team noted that despite an agreement reached at the second joint Transition Team meeting on December 13, 2024, the NPP government has continued these activities without permission.

The Transition Team emphasised that due to the lack of good faith shown by the outgoing administration, these actions will be undone once the new government assumes office, and all public officials responsible for them will be held accountable.

“The Transition Team of the President-elect wishes to state emphatically, that given the bad faith displayed by the government, all these payments, recruitments, transfers and promotions, some of which have been backdated, will be reversed and, where necessary, public officials responsible for them held to strict account when a formal transfer of power takes place,” the statement read.

The statement also warned all public officials to resist pressure from outgoing political actors to participate in these activities, cautioning that such actions “could result in severe consequences” under the new administration.

“For the avoidance of doubt, all public officials are strongly cautioned to resist pressure from outgoing political actors to engage in these acts as they could attract severe consequences when the new government takes office,” the statement concluded.
