Top NPP guru strongly disagree with President Akufo-Addo’s government used of GHC 25 billion banking sector clean up exercise expenditure. According to Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, it doesn’t not make economic sense to spend huge amount of money GHC 25 billion to under take banking sector clean up which led to collapse of over hundred financial institutions in the country whiles those banking institutions needed at most GHC 10 billion to make them solvent. He was of the view that government could have rather invested part of that GHC 25 billion which was spent to collapse those banks in the name of cleaning up could have rather been used to put those financial institutions back in business and change the directors who mismanaged those institutions to face the laws of the country. If government had not collapsed those financial institutions, those employed there will have still be in employment contributing to the tax basket for development. The collapse of those banking institutions has increased already high unemployment situation in the country. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong sees this move by government as unacceptable decision to have been taking by any wise government. He is therefore calling for the head of the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta, the Governor of Bank of Ghana Ernest Addison failing on their supervisory role.
