The Member of Parliament representing the good people of South Dayi in the Volta Region on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had promised his constituents and the people of Ghana that the members of the NDC representing the minority group in parliament has clearly declared their intention to the majority that they won’t support the 2023 budget appropriation seeking to introduce additional 2.5% increase in VAT rate when he appeared on TV3 Morning Show monitored by Ghanaba News. The reason the minority advanced as the reason for opposing this additional VAT increment is that President Akufo-Addo and the so-called “COMPETENT NPP ” led government has brought excruciating hardship on their constituents and their monumental failure to protect the national purse to improve living conditions of their citizens. They may not be able to support government proposal as the increment in VAT is going to worsen the already economic hardship they have brought on their constituents. Ghanaba News can authoritatively say, this stand was hailed by many citizens of this country with high expectation that the minority will ‘walk the talk’ but instead they have once again failed the good people of this country.
Ghanaba News will like to ask the minority especially Rockson Nelson Etse Dafeamekpor, the Member of Parliament for South Dayi that what happened to their position and especially after putting strong defense of their stand on national television. Let Ghanaians know that my sister, Hon Theresa Awuni was unavoidably absent from Parliament on grounds of serious ill health, the night the vote on 2.5% VAT increment was taken. Hon Awuni is one heck of a pro-poor politician who wouldn’t have missed that voting but for her health.
