Coronavirus cases rise to 21 in Ghana

Ghana records two new cases of COVID-19 with 1 death leaving the existing case count in the country to be 21.

The number of active cases, however, is 20.

Prior to this new development, the Ghana Health Service reported three new cases earlier on Saturday pushing the figure to 19.

One of the patients, a 61-year-old Lebanese male trader and resident in Kumasi is said to have an underlying health problem, however, died in the Ashanti Region.

According to the Ghana Health Service, the deceased reported to a health facility in Kumasi with a fever and cough.

His temperature was 39.4 degrees Celcius.

At least three out of the 21 cases have been suspected to be community spread.

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, earlier in his broadcast to the nation urged Ghanaians to respect World Health Organization’s protocols in the fight against the spread of novel Coronavirus.

He said the masses should avoid what he described as “unnecessary body contact and stop shaking hands” to avoid the spread of the Coronavirus.

Mr Akufo-Addo, further urged the pharmaceutical companies to scale up domestic production of pharmaceutical products such as hand sanitizers to help halt the spread of the virus.

The Member of Parliament for Mfantseman Constituency, Ekow Kwansa Hayford has pledged to ensure the relative peace being enjoyed in the constituency is maintained. He said he will do everything within his powers to ensure his followers and the NPP party members maintain peace which is very crucial for sustainable development. He said in Mfantseman, the constituency has consolidated peace since multi-party democracy and this isn’t the time to allow politics to destroy the gains. It is only one political party that will win and whichever party wins, is Mfantseman that wins. He believes that NPP track record will retain the party in power. He is therefore calling on his colleagues in the country to do same.

The Member of Parliament for Mfantseman Ekow Kwansa Hayford admits that NPP government hasn’t not yet established factory under 1D1F concept in the constituency but they won’t be pushed by the opposition party NDC to rush into establishing unsustainable factory. According to the MP, Mfantseman does not want a repeat of Komenda Sugar Factory which was established under Former President John Dramani Mahama led administration and has not produced a cup of sugar for the people Ghana. Government is determining to revive Saltpond Ceramics which has collapsed for several years. Ekow Kwansa Hayford said Saltpond Ceramics will be revived this year. The challenge facing the revival of the factory is non-availability of power. Government is working hard to transport gas from Takoradi to Tema which will be used to feed the factory. They will also construct kenkey market for the kenkey sellers at Yamoransa and gari factory to supply gari to schools in the Central Region.

The District Chief Executives in the Central Region have accepted that 2018/2019 Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development review performance was below their expectation. It doesn’t speak well of region especially where the regional minister was adjudged the over all best regional minister where the districts assemblies in the region performed poorly in the national ranking. They have pledged to work hard to place respectable position in the 2019/2020 review to make the regional minister  and the people of Central Region proud.
