Inter Party Resistance Against the New Voter Register

Good afternoon ladies and Gentlemen of the Press, on behalf of the Inter-Party Resistance against the
New Voter Register (IPRAN), you are welcome to the Freedom Center. We are grateful for honoring our
invitation.
We want to use this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to you for the coverage of activities
of the Resistance so far. We however, express our disquiet about the conduct of some media houses in
the publication of NPP generated fake news on their platform. We are particularly concerned about the
lies and deliberate fabrication of documents that had some figures purported to be a budget of the
Resistance submitted to Former President John Mahama . We want state unequivocally that no such
documents has been authored nor discussed by the Resistance or the individuals mentioned. We have
since directed our lawyers to take the matter up and pursue legal reliefs against any individual or
organization that published the said document.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press, as you may already be aware, the Inter-Party Resistance Against the
New Voter Register (IPRAN) is a coalition of some political parties in Ghana, who are resolved to defend
and protect the integrity of our electoral process by resisting the reckless and wasteful replacement of
the current Biometric Voter Register.
We are here to share with you, the forward for the Resistance in respect of the series of actions planned
to engage the moral society, the media, the Civil Society and to show force, and unity of purpose in the
movement to resist the compilation of a new voter register by the Electoral Commission.
Following a meeting of the Resistance last week, we took a disturbing note of the ECs
declaration of April 18 as the beginning of the compilation of the new register and its
subsequent publication in the state media without recourse to the planned engagement of
stakeholders at a meeting scheduled for 30th January. In our press release after the meeting we
described ECs action as an act of bad faith purposed to disrespect and disregard to the ECs own
establishment, the Committee of Eminent Advisors and the Civil Society Organizations involved
in this discussions.
It is our considered view that, the EC is taking the anger and the will of the people for granted
by spiting the good conscience of the Resistance in the invitation of political parties to a
meeting with the Committee of Eminent Advisors for further deliberations on the said matter
and yet going ahead to announce a date for the commencement of same.
We subsequently announced our inability to oblige with the earlier announcement of the
momentary suspension of our public manifestations and declared resumption the series of
mass actions earlier outlined.
Inter Party Resistance Against the New Voter Register
We are by this Press Conference announcing our ‘Y3npini March to the EC’ on Tuesday 4th,February 2020 in Accra.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the media, IPRAN has agreed to participate in tomorrow’s IPAC with
the Eminent Advisory Committee and then CSOs with an open mind.
In other to curb any doubt, we insist on a live coverage of the meeting ,since it’s a matter of
Great Public Interest.

Secondly, we Insist on a proper public forum where all Parties ,and the Pro and Anti New
Register Forum would get the opportunity to present their views to the Public.
Fellow country men, we urge you to join with IPRAN to safeguard our elections and electoral
processes, our Democracy and the peace of our nation Ghana.
We agree with the Electoral Commission that the current register is Very credible and should
not be changed

Do not be left out in this historic movement. It is your responsibility, my responsibility, our
collective responsibility to ensure that the sanctity and integrity of our democracy is protected
and preserved.
We must make common cause to ensure that the EC does not take the entire nation on this
wasteful and scary path, that has the potential to plunge this country into crisis. A peaceful and
successful election is nonnegotiable.
Long live the Resistance!!
Long live our Democracy!!
Long live Mother Ghana!!
Aluta Continua!! Victoria Ascerta
