A delegation of chiefs from the Sefwi area in the Western North Region has expressed deep frustration after traveling over 10 hours to Accra to support the Minister of Health-designate, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, only to face a disorganised and chaotic experience on Thursday evening in Parliament.

The chiefs, who embarked on the long journey to show solidarity with the nominee, recounted their exhaustion and disappointment after what was meant to be a show of support turned into an ordeal.

According to a video posted by The1957News on X, the delegation expected a smooth and respectful process but instead encountered logistical challenges, delays, and an environment of disorder.

Some of the traditional leaders were captured describing their experience as “humiliating and disrespectful,” adding that such treatment discourages traditional leaders from engaging in national affairs.

“We traveled all the way from Western North to be part of this important occasion, yet the experience was anything but welcoming. We were not given the necessary attention and respect we deserved after such a long and tiring journey,” one chief lamented.

They emphasised that their presence was a gesture of unity and support for Akandoh, who hails from the region, and they had expected a more dignified reception.

They have since called for better organisation and greater respect for traditional authorities at future state functions.

Meanwhile, the details surrounding the chaotic scenes indicated that Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri, who also serves as the Minority Chief Whip, the Appointments Committee had initially agreed to vet four nominees on January 30, 2025.

However, five were vetted, and two more were being added, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs-designate, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and the Minister of Health-designate, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, which sparked the chaos.

As a result of the chaos between the Majority and Minority caucuses, microphones and tables were destroyed.

The Minority side was seen overturning the vetting table, destroying almost all the materials on it.
